Kate Bush. La nostra ragazza preferita

La musica sembra New Age, ma la seguente canzone, dal titolo "Don't Give Up" ("Non arrenderti"), è cantata da due miei idoli: Peter Gabriel e Kate Bush. 

Fate attenzione al testo: dà i brividi. Racconta infatti del nostro presente...

La dedico a tutte le donne, le donne che ci sono vicine e ci danno conforto in questi tempi grami, in cui i furbetti si prendono il potere e chi è serio e onesto viene messo in disparte, impoverito e umiliato.

Ecco Gabriel & Bush, dunque.

Lei è formidabile. Chi non vorrebbe tenere tra le braccia una donna come Kate ("Cat", la gatta) Bush?

David Gilmour conobbe la sedicenne Kate nel 1975.

“Ero intrigato da quella strana voce" spiegò Gilmour. "Sono andato a casa sua nel Kent e ho incontrato i suoi genitori. Lei ha suonato per me e ho pensato che avrei dovuto provare a farle sfruttare il suo talento.”

Gilmour lavorerà con la Bush come produttore esecutivo per il suo primo album, The Kick Inside (1978), avviandone così l'incredibile carriera.

Per certa parte degli Anni Novanta e l'inizio dei 2000 Kate sembrò volersi nascondere dalla vita pubblica e non volere più aver nulla a che fare con il mondo dello spettacolo. Si ritirò a tutti gli effetti dalla scena musicale, probabilmente a causa della morte del chitarrista e collaboratore Alan Murphy, a causa della fine del suo rapporto affettivo con il musicista Del Palmer e per via della dolorosa perdita di sua madre. Inoltre, nel 1998 diede alla luce un bambino, il cui padre è il chitarrista Danny MacIntosh. Ma neppure molti suoi fans conoscevano i dettagli della sua vita privata ed erano inconsolabili. La grande Kate aveva forse già espresso tutto quello che aveva da esprimere?
Poi, nel 2005, uscì Aerial...

E' tornata! Dopo 12 anni, la più indipendente tra tutte le artiste mainstream d'Inghilterra si riaffaccia alla ribalta con un album eclettico (Aerial) riproponendoci la sua inconfondibile voce.

 Kate Bush, "La Boush", trasse dall'album anche un singolo, "King Of The Mountain". La canzone parla di Elvis Presley ma allude pure all'affaire Jonathan King. 

La vicenda, in breve: nel 2001 scoppiò uno brutto scandalo a Londra, che vide coinvolto l'ex produttore e re dell'easy listening King (scopritore tra l'altro dei Genesis). King fu arrestato con l'accusa di aver abusato sessualmente di alcuni adolescenti e fu condannato a scontare una pena.

Dopo i primi successi, "La Boush" decise di automanagerializzarsi, di non accettare alcuna imposizione da parte delle major. 

Tra i musicisti che hanno collaborato con lei ci sono Roy Harper, Peter Gabriel, Eric Clapton, Nigel Kennedy e Prince. 

Tricky, Björk e tanti altri, ma in primo luogo Tori Amos, hanno dichiarato di considerarla  un loro idolo.
